Evelyn Ardella Cowan , 97, recently of Mooresville, passed away on April 29, 2017. She was born on November 6, 1919 in Veblen, South Dakota to Knute and Alvida Johnson. The family migrated to the West Coast in the 1920’s and Ardella graduated from Jefferson High School in Portland, Oregon.
Right after graduation she married William T. (Bill) Cowan, Jr. and they enjoyed 55 years of marriage. They lived in Portland, Oregon for several years and welcomed their daughter Linda in 1955. In the late 1950’s the family moved to Southern California where they resided until the early 1990’s when she lost her beloved husband. Ardella then moved, with her daughter Linda and son-in-law Bob Abell, to Indianapolis and later to Camby, Indiana.
Ardella was a very sweet, intelligent and energetic woman and was loved by her family. She had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed socializing with family and friends. She loved to cook and bake and delighted in sharing baked goodies at Christmastime with friends and family. Ardella always enjoyed her annual trips to Oregon to visit family. She continued to fly by herself until well into her 90’s.
Ardella was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; brother, Elmer K. “Al” Johnson; daughter, Linda and son-in-law Bob Abell. She is survived by her niece, Irene Pugh of Damascus, Oregon; and many other extended family members and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Meadow Lakes and Heart to Heart Hospice for their loving care of Ardella.
